McCollum Says Shootings Show Need For Gun Control

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum is calling the shootings at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin an act of "mass murder by a madman with a gun in his hand." And she says the killings show the need for gun control.

The Minnesota Democrat, who represents the St. Paul area, called in a statement Monday for "a serious national dialogue and thoughtful action by Congress to keep guns out of the hands of people who would use them for violence."

McCollum says that if the country doesn't act responsibly and urgently, every community and family will continue to be in danger of being randomly victimized, whether it's in a theater, at a temple or church, in a school, or anywhere else.

She says, "The madness of gun violence must stop."
