ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) — Opponents of the upcoming gray wolf hunt plan to protest on Thursday outside the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources headquarters in St. Paul.

It’s the same group behind a billboard campaign aimed at stopping the hunt this fall. You probably have seen them popping up around the Twin Cities. Leaders of the group ‘Howling for Wolves’ say besides the rally, they’ll also file a petition to ban wolf hunting.

The gray wolf was recently removed from the endangered species list, but the DNR said that decision was made because the wolf population is healthy here in Minnesota. Officials said there are currently about 3,000 of them.

Hunters will only be allowed to take a total of 400 wolves this November.
