MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 42-year-old Red Wing man was sentenced Tuesday to more than 11 years in prison for receiving and possessing thousands of images and videos of child pornography, the U.S. Justice Department said.
Ronald Lee Rainwater pleaded guilty on April 6 to one count of receipt of child pornography and was sentenced to 145 months in federal prison.
In his plea agreement, Rainwater admitted to receiving child pornography in January 2009 and to possessing at least 14,000 images and around 2,600 videos of child porn. Authorities found the material on Rainwater’s computer and external hard drive, the department said.
Authorities were first alerted to Rainwater’s activity after German police identified him following a file-sharing website investigation.
Rainwater will likely spend his entire sentence behind bars, because the federal criminal justice system does not have parole.
