MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) – Maple Grove Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a van in Maple Grove early Thursday morning.

Authorities say the accident happened at about 1:36 a.m. on Weaver Lake Road just east of Main Street. It’s a busy area with the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes in the area. When authorities arrived, they learned a woman had been hit by a van in the area. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the van did stop, and the woman was not in a crosswalk when she was hit, according to police.

The Maple Grove Police Department said Thursday afternoon that they’ve been able to positively identify the victim, but have not named her yet pending notification of family. Authorities say she is a white female about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, about 35 to 40 years old with blonde shoulder length hair.

The accident is under investigation with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Hennepin County Dispatch at (763) 525-6216.
