Bemidji Sheriff: Pedestrian Laid In Road, Killed By Car

NORTHERN TOWNSHIP, Minn. (WCCO) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car early Saturday morning in Northern Township.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was notified of an accident near Balsam Road on Irvine Ave NW, approximately 1 mile north of Bemidji.

Twenty-one-year-old Tyler Blake Cummings of Bemidji was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The car that hit Cummings was driven by 19-year-old Samantha Ruth Pender, also of Bemidji. Pender and her passengers were not injured, and remained at the scene until officers arrived.

According to Minnesota State Troopers and Beltrami County Deputies, Cummings was lying in the roadway when struck by Pender.

The case remains under investigation.
