MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Steelworkers at two taconite mines on the Iron Range are getting ready to strike Wednesday morning.

Officials said contracts for more than 1,000 workers at the Hibbing Taconite and United Taconite mines expire at midnight Friday. Negotiations between union leaders and officials of Cliffs Natural Resources have been going on since August.

Officials with Cliffs said they plan to keep the mines operating with replacement workers if a strike happens.
