UNLV A Special Place For Vereen Family

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The season opener is always a special game. When Minnesota visits UNLV on Thursday night, the game will hold even more significance for Golden Gophers safety Brock Vereen and his family.

Vereen's father Henry was a standout, do-it-all kind of player for the Running Rebels in the late 1970s. Henry was a running back, receiver and return man, and his 4,280 all-purpose yards from 1975-78 still stands as the second-best mark in UNLV history.

Brock's mother, Venita, was a tennis player at UNLV and both will be in the stands on Thursday night. Brock Vereen says he has visited the campus before and seen his father's name in the school's record books.

But he says "on Thursday the Vereen family is not rooting for UNLV, that's for sure."
