September Savings: Discounts For Holiday Travel And Blue Jeans

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The summer savings are over and Black Friday is still far away, but we found out there are still savings to snag in September.

"We have our fall clearance going on," said Jim Smith with Seasonal Concepts. "We have to make room for 200 Christmas trees and boxes of ornaments, so we need to get rid of some patio inventory."

Smith said you can find savings between 20 and almost 70 percent on things like chairs, umbrellas, heaters, tables and outdoor grill sets.

Cooler temperatures also mean warm cravings. Caffeine junkies should mark their calendar now: National Coffee day is Sept. 29, and many coffee houses will offer a free cup of joe.

And if you still can't stand the thought of blowing snow, travel agents say now is a great time to book warm weather destinations.

Travel Leaders found $300 off holiday travel to Mexico.

The people at Travel Beyond said there are deals for 30 percent off at Disney if you book before the end of this month and $100 off travel to Belize if you jet off before the holidays.

Both say, unless your dates are flexible, now could be your last chance to book moderately priced holiday airfare. In fact, people are already purchasing their March and April airfare.

"I think when people go back to school, they're already thinking of their winter vacations or spring break, and this is the time to get them locked in," said Nora Blum of Travel Leaders.

When visiting those sunny destinations, don't forget your shades.

"You can find pretty much 30-40 percent off depending on where you go," said Erik Johnson with EJ's Sunglasses.

Johnson said designer-name sunglasses change most frequently and see the biggest discounts. You can find those discounts at designer retail outlets or online.

Consumer experts say you can also find good deals on bedding and blue jeans this month; but they suggest that if you're not picky and are open to less varieties of either option, wait until Black Friday for the deepest discounts.
