McD's Installs Corrected Hmong Billboards

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- McDonald's has installed corrected billboards intended to reach out to St. Paul's Hmong community.

The company first installed the billboards last month. The company says it intended to create a special message for its Hmong customers, but ended up apologizing for the two billboards after members of the Hmong community said the phrase wasn't written the way people actually talk in Hmong.

McDonalds admitted to making an error when translating the message: "Coffee gets you up, breakfast gets you going."

The original billboards were missing spaces between words and, according to community members, simply didn't make sense.

The Twin Cities has the nation's highest concentration of Hmong-Americans.

Now, properly written out, the ads say: "Will help wake you up, and will give you strength on the go."
