EAST BETHEL, Minn. (WCCO) –- A 42-year-old woman has been charged in the crash that killed two motorcyclists in East Bethel over the weekend.
John Allen Jordan, 48, and Patricia Lyn Kalla, 46, were killed on Sunday evening when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by an SUV being driven by Paula Lynn Larson.
The crash happened at County Road 22 (Viking Boulevard) and Rendova Street. Both Jordan and Kalla were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say according to the accident scene, it appears the motorcycle was braking heavily before colliding with the SUV on its driver’s side door.
The State Patrol said it appeared Larson made an “unknown maneuver” that caused the motorcycle to crash into the SUV.
According to the criminal complaint, officers noted signs that Larson appeared to be intoxicated, though she told them she hadn’t been drinking.
Later, she told investigators she was coming from EJ’s Bar and that she had two drinks before driving. Preliminary breath tests indicated a blood alcohol level of 0.195. Blood test results are pending.
Larson has been charged with two felony counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
