School Bus Hits, Critically Injures Pedestrian In St. Paul

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Police are investigating after a school bus hit a pedestrian on Western Avenue, critically injuring the man.

Police say they received a 911 call around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday regarding the incident. They learned upon arrival that a school bus, carrying 26 students, struck a man while making a left-hand turn from Western Avenue on to Aurora in St. Paul.

The man, said to be in his late 50s, early 60s, was transported to Regions Hospital in critical condition. Police say he is expected to survive his injuries.

The driver of the school bus as well as the bus company are cooperating with investigators. At this time, alcohol is not suspected in the crash.

No one on the bus was injured in the crash. The kids on board were coming from Jackson Preparatory Magnet School on a bus contracted from Sunburst Transit.

The kids were transferred to another bus and taken home. Parents were notified of the incident by phone.
