MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The woman who has the order of protection against Eric Hightower says he never meant to hurt her.

Hightower was the man seen on video being kicked by a St. Paul police officer during an arrest last month.

Earlier this week, he was arrested again.

This time he was fleeing from police after they responded to a report of a fight in a motel room.

The fight was with the same woman – Kara Drew – who has an order of protection against him.

Today, Drew spoke out saying there’s nothing wrong with their relationship.

“We threaten each other,” Drew said. “But they’re just empty threats.”

Drew says she and Hightower have broken up several times.

She also says the two lost a baby earlier this summer, and that’s why they’ve been having problems.

Hightower is currently in custody.
