North Mpls. Tornado Victims Thank Their Community

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - The tornado that touched down in North Minneapolis last year displaced hundreds of families. On Sunday, one family thanked the community for helping them piece their lives back together.

The Tillman's home on North Irving Avenue was destroyed by that tornado in May of 2011.

Neighbors, members of their church and complete strangers helped get things back in order.

To show appreciation for the community's help, the Tillman family put together an open house Sunday to say thank you to those who helped them rebuild. Michelle Tillman was astonished by the efforts of her neighbors.

"They came, they cleaned the wreckage and the rubbage and they got down in there in the trenches by the van loads and they have been wonderful," Michelle said.

More than fifty people were on hand to help the Tillman's celebrate their new home.
