MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Richfield man died Friday after the canoe he was in capsized while he and another man were fishing on Lake Fort Snelling, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office received word of the incident around 8:40 a.m. When the boat capsized, one of the men, who was wearing a life jacket, swam to shore. The other was in the water for at least 10 minutes, and firefighters rescued him with a fan-propelled airboat, the sheriff’s office said.
Crews brought both men to United Hospital. The man who swam to shore was treated and released. He was from Minneapolis. The other man died Friday evening. A cause of death was not given.
The men’s names have not been released. Both are in their mid-to-late 20s.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
