STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) – The Washington County Attorney’s Office has charged a Cottage Grove man over the death of a Bayport man whom he assaulted in a bar fight.
Police say 22-year-old Eric Richard punched the victim, 28-year-old Adam McCloud, in the head at least twice at Smalley’s Caribbean Barbecue & Pirate Bar in Stillwater.
The victim’s head hit the ground, causing several skull fractures and intracranial bleeding, which eventually caused respiratory failure.
McCloud died after being pulled from life support one week after the fight.
Police have had Richard in custody since Monday. The Washington County Attorney’s Office charged him Friday with second-degree unintentional murder during the commission of a felony, and first-degree manslaughter.
Richard’s bail is set at $200,000.
Police think the fight started over a spilled drink.
This is the fourth assault police have investigated at Smalley’s in Stillwater since mid-September.
