MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter who missed a nationally-televised match because of his arrest in Minneapolis remains in jail.
Twenty-six-year-old Jeremy Dean Stephens was arrested Friday at a downtown hotel on a felony assault warrant from Iowa. He was still in the Hennepin County Jail Monday.
UFC president Dana White tried to cut a deal to get Stephens out on bail in time for the match, but it fell through.
White has accused authorities of purposely waiting just hours before the match to arrest Stephens, a mixed martial arts fighter.
The UFC website says the veteran lightweight is from Des Moines and fights under the name “Lil’ Heathen.”
