MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Ten years after they died in a plane crash, people across the state are remembering former Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife Sheila.
This month marks the 10th anniversary of the crash that killed the Senator, his wife, their daughter Marcia and three campaign staffers.
Wednesday night, supporters, colleagues, family and friends gathered to honor their legacy.
“And people got it. They came to understand that profound difference to appreciate what a difference it made in their lives and to release how extraordinary it was that by some miracle someone had been elected to the United States Senate for them,” said Gov. Mark Dayton at Wednesday night’s event.
The plane crash happened just 12 days before the 2002 election.
