Minn. St., Mankato Beats RPI 4-3 In OT
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Eriah Hayes scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Minnesota State, Mankato beat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 4-3 in overtime Saturday in men's college hockey.
One night after the teams skated to a 3-3 tie, Hayes notched his second goal of the season just 1:09 into the overtime period on the Mavericks' (3-0-1) second shot on goal. Hayes also had an assist.
RPIs Matt Neal scored two, including the tying goal at 18:24 of the third period with an extra attacker on the ice.
MSUM goalie Phil Cook had 30 saves, 17 in the second period.
Bryce Merriam had 34 saves for RPI (1-2-1).
