MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 32-year-old Deer River woman was sentenced Monday to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for swindling money from the DMV she worked at.

Crystal Marie Wilson was sentenced in the case in Itasca County Court. She had previously pleaded guilty to theft by swindle, admitting to stealing about $5,700 while employed at the Grand Rapids Division of the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles.

Wilson admitted to swindling the money through car titles processed at the DMV she worked at.

Wilson was sentenced to five years of probation under the terms that she serve 30 days in jail, pay a $1,085 fine, $500 restitution, a DNA sample and serve 20 hours of community service per week. She also must seek chemical dependency treatment, receive random alcohol and drug testing and write a letter of apology to all victims involved.
