MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a 56-year-old woman from northwestern Wisconsin was killed in a head-on crash in Polk County (Wis.) Tuesday afternoon.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene on Highway 35 near 240th Avenue in Luck Township at about 2:17 p.m. Tuesday. When authorities arrived, a 1998 Ford Explorer had been traveling northbound on Highway 35 when it moved into the southbound lane, hitting a semi-truck head-on.
Authorities said the driver of the SUV, later identified as Beverly A. Brunberg of Granstburg, Wis., was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the SUV, 23-year-old Robert D. Brunberg, was transported to St. Croix Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries.
The driver of the semi, a 43-year-old man from Andover, was not hurt in the crash. The highway was closed for more than three hours while the crash was investigated.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol said what caused the SUV to veer into oncoming traffic is still under investigation.
