MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the man who died Tuesday when a cement truck and a van collided in Independence, Minn.

The West Hennepin Public Safety Department said Aaron Jaunich, 20, of Delano, died at the scene, the 6500 block of Highway 12. Jaunich was driving westbound in a van when the van crossed the center line and slammed into a cement truck traveling east, engulfing the van and the truck’s cab in flames.

Department director Ray McCoy described the crash as “a grim reminder for all drivers to have full attention on safe driving.”

The truck’s driver, 45-year-old David Kritzeck of Howard Lake, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated for them at North Memorial Medical Center.

The collision closed Highway 12 to traffic for more than four hours.
