FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in northern Arizona say they’ve recovered and identified the body of a Minnesota man who’s been missing since late July.
Coconino County Sheriff’s officials said Thursday that dental records confirmed the body is that of 27-year-old Shaun Rentz of White Bear Lake, Minn.
Rentz’ vehicle was found abandoned July 31 at the Oak Creek Vista overlook parking lot. An extensive search followed and lasted for days.
Sheriff’s officials say a hiker last Sunday came across a decomposed body in Pumphouse Wash at the north end of Oak Creek Canyon.
The body was taken to the county Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy. Authorities say the cause of death remains under investigation.
