MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesotans opened up their checkbooks Thursday to help Superstorm Sandy victims on the East Coast.

WCCO-TV and its CBS partners (WCCO Radio, BUZN 102.9, JACK 104.1 and CBS Outdoor) teamed up with the Red Cross for a one-day fund-raiser at the Mall of America. WCCO reporters Jamie Yuccas and Heather Brown spent the day at the rotunda, encouraging people to donate.

Heather overcame her fear of roller coasters when a couple viewers donated $100. And Jamie did 20 pushups when someone donated $20.

And the donations added up.

WCCO is proud to say the effort raised $185,700 to help Sandy victims.

Thank you to all who donated.
