MSU Student Accused Of Assaulting Other Student With Knife

MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 19-year-old Minnesota State University-Mankato student is in jail accused of assaulting another student with a knife Wednesday.

At 7:15 p.m., police responded to an assault complaint at the Memorial Library at MSU-Mankato. Upon arrival, police located the suspect who had been detained by several students.

The alleged attacker, Kevin Renquist of Mankato, was arrested without incident.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police learned that the victim was in the bathroom when Renquiest grabbed him from behind while holding a knife. The victim, however, was able to defend himself and escape.

Both Renquist and the victim are MSU students.

Requested charges for Renquist are second-degree assault, terroristic threats and other possible charges. Police are investigating the incident.
