MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – When there’s finally a winner, somebody is going to get a lot of money, a life-changing amount of money. There were no jackpot winners in Saturday night’s Powerball lottery drawing, meaning the jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing will go up to $425 million.
Minnesota State Lottery officials said that marks a new record. That’s after going 15 drawings without any jackpot winners, and officials said the stakes get higher with every drawing because of the $2 price per lottery ticket.
Powerball’s largest payout to date was $365 million in 2006. That went to a group of eight co-workers at a Nebraska meat-packing plant. The cash value on a single $425 million dollar winner is $278 million after taxes. That number could go even higher than $425 million as ticket sales usually spike on the day of drawings.
Your chances of winning are one in 175 million.
