ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – The historic Union Depot in St. Paul is undergoing a $243 million restoration, so that it can be used again as a mass-transit hub.

The last passenger train left Union Depot in 1971. And starting this Saturday, Metro Transit will start bus service to Union Depot.

Jefferson Bus Lines will start using it next month for regional service, and it’s one of the only depots in the country to be able to return to its roots.

Amtrak passenger train service will start sometime next year and Central Corridor Light Rail service will begin in 2014.
