Charges: Woman Drove Drunk, Caused Crash With 15-Year-Old In Car

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 45-year-old Eagan woman is accused of driving drunk and causing an accident with her 15-year-old son inside the car last week, according to charges filed Wednesday in Dakota County Court.

Jean Marie Williams was charged with two gross misdemeanor counts of second-degree driving while impaired in connection with the Nov. 27 incident. According to a criminal complaint, the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a crash at 11:20 a.m. on Highway 52 at 250th Street in Hampton Township.

When authorities arrived, Williams was driving a car headed southbound on Highway 52 and tried to do a U-turn to head back northbound, causing another vehicle to crash and hit a center median, the complaint states. Authorities said two other people were with Williams inside the car at the time of the crash, her husband and 15-year-old son.

Williams allegedly smelled of alcohol and was given a preliminary breath test, where she recorded a blood alcohol level of .20, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.

The complaint states there were no injuries reported from the crash. If convicted, Williams faces up to two years in jail and $6,000 in fines.
