NEW ULM, Minn. (WCCO) — A 79-year-old rural New Ulm woman died Saturday morning in a house fire, authorities say.

The New Ulm Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office were called to Shag Road in rural New Ulm around 5 a.m. Saturday for a fire that started in a converted garage being used as a residence.

The home’s lone occupant, Dorothy Lee Nichols, 79, was found dead. The incident is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. An autopsy is pending.
