STORRS, Conn. (AP) — J.P. Lafontaine scored two goals as Minnesota State, Mankato beat Brown 3-1 Saturday at the UConn Hockey Classic.

Lafontaine scored twice in the third period for the Mavericks (11-6-2), who have won seven of their last eight games and all by at least two goals.

Zach Palmquist’s goal gave MSUM a 1-0 lead. After Lafontaine scored to make it 2-0, Mark Naclerio scored short-handed for Brown midway through the third period.

Lafontaine added an insurance goal into an empty net with four seconds to play.

Brown (3-6-4) was outshot 27-19 while dropping to 1-3-2 in its last six games.

Anthony Borelli had 24 saves for the Bears, while Stephon Williams turned away 18 shots for MSUM.
