DEER RIVER, Minn. (WCCO) – One man has died and one woman is in critical condition after a crash involving a car and a semi-truck early Monday evening on Highway 6, just north of Deer River.
According to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m. when 27-year-old Samuel Deotis and 24-year-old Nora Emery, both from Bigfork, were traveling southbound on Highway 6 when the Chevy Lumina that Deotis was driving made a left turn and was broadsided by a semi-truck operated by 58-year-old Andrew Michalek of Blackduck.
Deotis died at the scene, while Emery was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
Michalek was unharmed in the crash.
The incident is under investigation by the Itasca County Sheriff’s office.
