FARIBAULT, Minn. (WCCO) – Tuesday’s cold weather didn’t stop a bunch of neighbors from jumping in their lake near Faribault, as part of a fundraiser to clean up Circle Lake, getting rid of carp and weeds.
For those who participated, New Year’s Day was all about the quick run from the ice water to the hot tub.
About 130 families around the lake joined in on the “chunky dunk” — the opposite of the “skinny dip.”
“It’s supposed to be a costume contest, so we dressed up as bees,” said Sarah Lynch.
One of the fundraiser’s main goals is to install carp grates on the dam, to keep carp from swimming into the lake to spawn.
The Circle Lake group also planned ahead, and had an ambulance and paramedics at their event just in case.
