APPLE VALLEY, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say a home in Apple Valley is all but destroyed after a fire that started in a garage spread to the house Tuesday afternoon.
Crews responded to a report of a fire at about 2:11 p.m. on the 8100 block of 134th Street. When authorities arrived, a fire had started in the garage and spread to the home. Neighbors reported hearing loud noises from the home when the fire started that sounded like explosions, but fire officials said there were no explosions that led to the fire. They said it was probably several small explosions of combustible items during the fire.
Authorities said as many as 55 firefighters responded to the scene and they had the fire under control after almost four hours.
The fire has displaced a family of six as well as two dogs and a cat. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but authorities said the size and design of the home made the fire difficult to fight.
