Hoffner Fights For His Coaching Job

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Todd Hoffner is fighting to get his job back as head football coach at Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Hoffner is a member of the faculty union at MSU and that union says the university did not have just cause to reassign Hoffner to another job.

Hoffner was cleared of charges that naked pictures of his children on his cellphone amounted to child pornography.

The university then reinstated Hoffner but says he won't return to his job as head coach of the Mavericks.

Attorney Connie Howard of the Inter-Faculty Organization argues the union contract says otherwise.

"The IFO collective bargaining agreement prohibits the university from shifting Hoffner from the coaching duties for which he was hired to other duties without his consent," said Howard.

She says Hoffner wants to return as coach.

"He wants to desperately," Howard added.

If the two sides can't reach an agreement, the matter could go to an arbitrator.
