Authorities: Northeast Mpls Standoff Ends In Apparent Suicide

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A standoff situation with an armed man Friday afternoon in northeast Minneapolis ended in an apparent suicide, authorities say.

Minneapolis police responded to the 2400 block of Pierce Street Northeast at 1:30 p.m. after a 911 call alerted them of the situation. Officers at the scene established a perimeter around the target house and obtained a physical description of the man inside.

A SWAT team then responded to the scene, and SWAT negotiators made contact with the man, trying to resolve the situation. After several hours, SWAT officers found a way to look inside the house, where they saw an unresponsive man.

When entering the house, officers learned the man was dead, killed most likely by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

The man's identity has not yet been released. It will be released by the county medical examiner's office.
