MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota State, Mankato goalie Stephon Williams made 24 saves to shut out Providence 4-0 in men’s college hockey Saturday.
Williams faced only six shots in the third period as the Mavericks (14-6-2) outshot the Friars 37-24.
MSUM led 2-0 heading into the third period after goals by Bryce Gervais and Matt Leitner. It locked things up in the third on goals by Evan Mosey and Eriah Hayes.
Leitner and Hayes scored on the power play.
Russ Stein made 33 saves in net for Providence (7-8-3).
MSUM won Friday’s series opener 4-3 in overtime.
