FELTON, Minn. (AP) – Authorities say a suspect fled from a vehicle following a police chase in Clay County and was found dead the next day, apparently of hypothermia.
A sheriff’s deputy was patrolling state Highway 9 about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and turned his squad around to check on a passing car.
The driver took off, turned onto a county road, lost control and rolled the vehicle. One person was still in the car and there were two sets of tracks in the snow.
Deputies started searching that night, but found nothing. The search began again Sunday and the man’s body was found about 4 p.m. about 3 miles from the crash scene.
The victim is identified as 24-year-old Jordan Louis Oppegard, of Mahnomen. Investigators believe he was driving the car.
