MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Ham Lake woman bought a Minnesota Millionaire Raffle ticket around Thanksgiving and last week found out she really has something to be thankful for: That ticket was a $1 million winner!
On Nov. 21, 2012, Cathy Murphy bought the ticket at a Holiday gas station in Garrison on her way to visit family and friends.
Now, Cathy and her husband, Jim, are $1 million richer. On Monday afternoon, Cathy and Jim picked up the big check at Lottery Headquarters. She took a personal day off from her job as a school lunch worker.
“I actually work two jobs and I’m going to keep working at both of them. I know in the past that you’ve had people who are cooks in schools win, and I’m actually a cook in a school,” said Cathy.
So far, the couple doesn’t have many plans on what they’re going to do with the money.
“We’re gonna put in a three-season porch on the house and that’s really the only plans we have,” said Jim.
The Murphys say their four grandkids will also benefit from the big win.
