ST. CLOUD (WCCO) — A man who suffered a medical emergency, crashed into a St. Cloud school and died has been identified.

On Jan. 4 at 2:41 p.m., authorities responded to a crash at St. Katherine/Drexel School, located on 428 2nd Street Southeast. An investigation revealed that a vehicle traveling southbound on Wilson Avenue Southeast left the roadway, traveled about one block and struck the Northwest corner of the school.

Though the four adults in the room were unscathed, they found the driver unconscious behind the wheel. Even after St. Cloud Firefighters and Goldcross paramedics performed life-saving efforts, the motorist died at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The crash did compromise the structural security of the building, and all students and staff were evacuated.

On Wednesday, authorities identified the victim as George Edward Banks, 65, of St. Cloud.
