HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) — The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human remains were discovered near the Vermillion River in Hastings.
The Sheriff’s Office, which announced the discovery late Tuesday afternoon, says investigators are working with the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office to recover the remains.
According to Hastings Police Chief Paul Schnell, police believe this is a woman who jumped from a nearby bridge in July 2011. No one else has been reported missing in the area and the woman’s body has never been found.
Investigators will be working to determine the exact identity of the person and the events leading up to the discovery.
