MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Rochester mom was sentenced Wednesday to one year of probation and less than a week in jail after pleading guilty to drinking, driving and crashing with her five kids in the car, officials say.
Kyra Lindsey, 31, pled guilty last November to two counts of criminal vehicular operation and one count of child endangerment. The misdemeanor charges stem from the early hours of Feb. 28, 2011, when Lindsey drank and drove with her kids in the car, and crashed on Highway 52 near Hampton. Four of her kids suffered minor injuries, according to Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom.
Judge Joseph Carter sentenced Lindsey to five days in jail, 15 days of electronic home monitoring and one year of probation, Backstrom said. Lindsey must also attend a victim impact panel and complete a chemical dependency evaluation.
“Driving under the influence and endangering your children in this manner is an extremely serious matter,” Backstrom said. “It is fortunate that more serious injuries did not occur in this crash.”
