MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time to start planning some weekend fun.
We found some great events to keep you busy on this winter weekend, from an outdoor ice cream social to a kite festival that you’ll want to add to your social calendar.
Outdoor Ice Cream Social
Ice cream in January? Yes please. As temperatures drop, the folks from the Washington County Historical Society are gearing up for an outdoor ice cream social.
On Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m., head to Stillwater’s Mulberry Point on the St. Croix riverfront for an old-fashioned ice cream social. The treats are free, and there will be a bonfire going to keep the family warm.
If the weather is favorable Aamodt’s Apple Farm will bring a hot air balloon and have it tethered for all to sneak a peek at the balloon.
Lake Harriet Kite Festival
Instead of outdoor ice cream, maybe you’d rather fly a kite on this chilly weekend.
Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m., is also the Lake Harriet Kite Festival. The kites will fly on the north end of the lake near the band shell. Other fun family activities at the festival include ice fishing, horse-drawn wagon rides, snowshoeing and a marshmallow roast around bonfires.
Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt
The countdown is on to the start of the 2013 St. Paul Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt, sponsored by the Pioneer Press.
The first clue to where the medallion is hidden will be release Sunday. This year’s successful hunter could win up to $10,000. A new clue will be published daily through Thursday, Jan. 31, unless the medallion is found sooner.
