Young Professionals Battle Cancer With A Ball

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities group called Young Professionals Finding a Cure are hoping to better fight cancer.

And they're holding a masquerade ball next week.

From 8 p.m. to midnight next Saturday, Aria in the warehouse district of Minneapolis will be the place to fight cancer.

"We get together a couple times a year to put on events to support the American Cancer Society and the money goes to support research grants at the University of Minnesota," Amy Covington said.

Each year, the group comes together for a big winter gala.

"Every year we change themes -- last year was the Great Gatsby," Covington said.

This year will be a masquerade ball.

Kaylee Schwertfeger is a University of Minnesota breast cancer researcher. She knows these events help her work.

"So in cancer research, as funding has decreased from the federal level, we're really relying on people who go out and raise the funds from the public in order to do the research," she said.

Last year, the group raised $54,000.
