MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 61-year-old man died Monday morning in central Minnesota after an oversized load on a semi hit a bridge and fell on a car, the State Patrol said.
George Piasecki, of Granite Falls, Minn., died after the load fell on his car minutes before 7 a.m. on Highway 59, just north of Milan, Minn.
The State Patrol said Piasecki was driving his 2004 Toyota Camry north on the highway when a semi carrying an oversized load approached, traveling south. When the semi passed under an overhead railroad bridge, its load hit the bridge, causing it to come off and smash into Piasecki’s car.
The driver of the semi, 66-year-old Dennis Clark of Vernal, Utah, suffered no injuries.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
