Twin Cities Ranked Among Nation's Most Literate Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It is the best of times, and not the worst of times, for both Minneapolis and St. Paul. Especially since a new survey suggests quite a few Twin Cities residents would know what book that first sentence references.

Minneapolis was ranked the third most literate city in the nation, and St. Paul wasn't too far behind at 6th overall.

The survey was released by Dr. Jack Miller of the Central Connecticut State University. His results put Washington, D.C. at the top of the heap, with Seattle just behind. The top 5 was rounded out by Pittsburgh and Denver.

This marks the 10th year for the survey. This marks the fourth straight year that Minneapolis ranks 3rd. It was previously ranked first for a few years.

Here is the complete top 10:

  1. Washington, DC
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Minneapolis, MN
  4. Pittsburgh, PA
  5. Denver, CO
  6. St. Paul, MN
  7. Boston, MA
  8. Atlanta, GA
