MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A snowmobiler suffered serious, life-threatening injuries Saturday, after being ejected from his sled, according to authorities.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a snowmobile accident on Pokegama Lake around 9:15 p.m. Saturday.
Crews responded to the scene of the accident and found a victim about 1,000 feet from the shore on the frozen lake. The victim was found with serious, life-threatening injuries and transported by sled to a waiting ambulance. From there, he was transported to the hospital in Mora via air ambulance.
Authorities said it appears the victim hit a partially submerged island and was thrown from his snowmobile.
His condition at this time is unknown.
The victim’s name is being withheld while the investigation continues.
This incident is not related to the incident of a missing snowmobiler on the St. Croix River.
