MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — It has been an incredibly difficult day for many in the Oakdale community.
Family and friends are saying their final goodbyes to 9-year-old Devin Aryal, who was shot and killed one week ago in Oakdale while riding with his mother in their minivan.
The funeral for Devin was held at Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale. Everyone attending wore a green pin to honor Devin. Green was his favorite color.
His death has brought this Oakdale community together those who knew him best and those who just wanted to support the family showed up today.
No one is able to make sense of his death.
“As a mom, this breaks your heart. You have no idea why this could happen to them — happen to anyone anybody. Even a mother can relate to this horrible tragedy,” said Karen Lee, a family friend.
Many of Devin’s classmates also showed up since school is not in session.
Nhan Tran, 34, is charged with shooting them and another woman in the hand and leg. Police say he was randomly shooting at vehicles driving through his neighborhood.
