St. Paul Academy Fencer Parrying The Competition

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- St. Paul Academy fencing coach Zach Moss has a star on his hands.

Senior Marie Siliciano won the gold medal at the Midwest Championships in Indiana.

So, Mike Max decided to go face-to-face with the fencing phenom.

Siliciano said when she first learned her school had a fencing team, she thought it was unusual and figured she'd give it a shot.

"I started in 7th grade," she said. "It's a really exciting sport. When I compare it to other sports like running, it seems like there's a lot more action, there's a lot more sort of mental fencing that's going on as well. It's a mind game as well as a physical game. It can be slow paced or fast paced and it's really, you're sort of in control of how the bout goes."

How impressive is Siliciano? Watch the video above to find out.
