'Pride And Prejudice' To Wrap Guthrie 50th Season
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Guthrie Theater will conclude its 50th anniversary season with a production of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."
The summer production also commemorates the 200th anniversary of the 1813 publication of Austen's novel.
Guthrie artistic director Joe Dowling says Austen's novel adapts easily to the stage because of its strong characters.
Set in the countryside of 19th century England, "Pride and Prejudice" tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet and the wealthy Mr. Darcy, and their eventual romance.
Previews begin on July 6, with opening night July 12. "Pride and Prejudice" runs through Aug. 31.
The Guthrie is moving the previously scheduled "Born Yesterday" to next season.
