Goin' To The (Frozen) Lake: Chris & Amelia Visit The Birkie (Day 2)
HAYWARD, Wis. (WCCO) – On Friday, Amelia Santaniello and Chris Shaffer spent a second day in Packer land checking out one of the biggest cross country ski events in the world -- the American Birkebeiner.
On their first day in Hayward, the two learned about the Birkie's nearly ancient origins and watched numerous events, including the Nikkerbeiner 5K -- where the skiers outfit in old school cross country style: wooden skis, bamboo poles and, of course, knickers.
For Friday, Amelia and Chris hung out with the mushers and their dogs, and the two met up with the 2009 Birkie champion, Matt Liebsch.
