OLD DUTCH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Class – Senior
Short capped an undefeated senior season by winning his fourth state wrestling championship on Saturday, becoming one of only 14 wrestlers in Minnesota history to be four-time state champs. Competing in Class 2A at 152 pounds – where he is ranked No. 1 in the nation – Short ended his prep career with a pin, giving him a record of 45-0 this season, a 234-20 career record and a 79-match winning streak. Jake, who will wrestle at the University of Minnesota, also is a member of the Simley football and tennis teams. His family has a rich wrestling background; three uncles were state champions as was his father, Simley coach Will Short. His grandfather, Jim Short, coached Simley to four team state titles and was co-coach with Will when the Spartans won three more championships.
